4th Floor Fest at the Jazz Academy

Jazz Arts Group’s Jazz Academy is celebrating Jazz Appreciation Month in April by hosting the 4th Floor Fest, “a series of programs throughout the month of April designed to inspire people of all backgrounds and ability levels.” The festival’s extensive schedule includes a wide variety of activities for jazz enthusiasts and aspiring musicians, including listening parties, performances, discussions, jam sessions, and vocal and instrumental workshops. Of special note for live jazz fans are three free Monday night (7pm) presentations: Watu Utungo: A Musical Conversation on Jazz and Civil Rights on April 9th, Jazz Composers Celebration on April 16th, and Spotlight on Free Jazz: The Breakdown of Convention on April 23rd. All programs will be held at the Jazz Academy on the 4th floor of the historic Lincoln Theatre – 769 E. Long St., Columbus, OH 43203. See below for the full schedule and details from JAG. Thursdays, April 5 – 26 (6:30 – 8:30pm): Famous Jazz Recordings, led by Vaughn Weister

Monday, April 9 (7:00 – 9:00pm): Watu Utungo: A Musical Conversation on Jazz and Civil Rights

Sunday, April 15 (12:00 – 4:00pm): Jazz Academy Vocal Workshop, led by vocalist Kelly McLennan

Monday, April 16 (7:00 – 9:00pm): Jazz Composers Celebration

Sunday, April 22 (1:00 – 2:00pm): Jazz Academy Vocal Workshop Final Performance
Sunday, April 22 (2:00 – 3:30pm): Jazz Academy Jam Session

Monday, April 23 (7:00 – 9:00pm): Spotlight on Free Jazz: The Breakdown of Convention

Saturday, April 28 (2:00 – 3:00pm): Offstage at the Jazz Academy with Nicole Henry and Michael Lynche
