Bill Holman with the Famous Jazz Orchestra October 16

While Monday nights with Vaughn Wiester’s Famous Jazz Orchestra have been a swinging good time every week for over twenty years now, the next installment will be extra special. Wiester and the FJO will be joined by special guest Bill Holman at the Clintonville Woman’s Club on Monday, October 16th. Composer/arranger, conductor, saxophonist, and songwriter Holman has had a storied career that stretches over six decades at this point. The list of musicians and composers he’s arranged for is a who’s who of jazz greats: Kenton, Herman, Severinsen, Rich, Gibbs, Basie, Mulligan and Fitzgerald, among many more. Check out his Wikipedia page to learn more about his distinguished resume. Wiester is excited to have the chance to present Holman again: “This is either our sixth or seventh event hosting Mr. Holman, who turned 90 in May. Holman has been and remains my personal hero ever since I was in about 10th grade. My discovery of his music was essentially the cornerstone of my discovery of what arranging for jazz orchestra is about, so of course it is personally very satisfying to host him. It’s also very pleasing to me that he has become a favorite of our audience.” Admission is $15 for this week’s show and available at the door only. Seating will be general admission as usual. Music starts at 7:30pm, but early arrival is recommended. Enjoy topnotch big band jazz with a living legend! Check out a sampling of Holman videos to prepare:
