Catch the Craig Taborn Trio at Wexner Center on Saturday

The Wexner Center welcomes the Craig Taborn trio to the Wexner Performance space on Saturday, April 27th at 8pm.  This will be the first time the Wexner has presented this innovative jazz pianist and composer Craig Taborn as a leader of his own band, although he has appeared there previously as a sideman several times backing talents such as James Carter, Chris Potter, David Torn and Tim Berne.

Taborn has quietly amassed a reputation over the years as a player’s player on the NYC scene and he received major attention with last year’s release Avenging Angel for ECM Records that featured his austerely beautiful improvisational solo pieces. ECM will also issue a new CD featuring this trio with bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Gerald Cleaver prior to our concert where they will stretch out on Taborn’s highly original compositions that are informed by his wide ranging interests in jazz’s trajectory from players like Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett and beyond as well as electronica and classical music’s vanguard. Expect the unexpected when the Craig Taborn Trio takes the stage.

“Hearing this remarkable innovator playing his own music is a seductive prospect….it’s a band that reveals how much the keyboardist and his partners are both inside and on the edge of the jazz tradition.”-The Guardian
