Cincinnati-based Afro-fusion band BAOKU & The Image Afro-Beat Band is playing a show at Rumba Cafe on Saturday, May 23rd. Local eclectic jazz outfit Insane Jazz Posse, who sounded better than ever the last time I saw them, will play an opening set around 10pm. Admission is $5, and advance tickets are available here. BAOKU’s sound is an energetic rock and jazz fusion using African instruments that is highly inspired by Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. The band was founded in 2005 by lead singer/percussionist Baoku Moses, a professionally-trained African drummer, dancer, and songwriter who hails from Nigeria. Moses writes the band’s all-original material, which they will showcase later this year on their upcoming debut album. He is joined onstage by a massive crew entailing 2 guitarists, 1 bassist, 4 horn players, 1 drummer, and 2 additional percussionists for a true big band Afrobeat experience. This should be a great night of diverse music and dancing! Keep reading for video footage of the band in action:
