Cole and Cole featuring Keith David with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra

Columbus, OH – Under the direction of world-renowned band leader and trumpet virtuoso Byron Stripling, the Columbus Jazz Orchestra celebrates Jazz Appreciation Month in style with Cole & Cole, April 21-25 at the Southern Theatre. Capping off the Jazz Arts Group’s 2009-2010 Swingin’ at the Southern season, Cole & Cole is a witty and sublime homage to Cole Porter and the “unforgettable” Nat “King” Cole with singer, movie actor and narrator Keith David.

A distinguished film, television and voice-over actor, Keith David’s career spans three decades and more than 75 films as well as numerous TV episodes. He is globally recognized for his live action roles in Oliver Stone’s Oscar-winning film, Platoon, as well as in John Carpenter’s The Thing and They Live.

The multi-talented actor has also appeared in such popular films as Armageddon, There’s Something About Mary, Pitch Black, Road House, Marked for Death, Requiem for a Dream, and Spike Lee’s Clockers, to name a few. His deep and distinctive voice has earned him two Emmy Awards, one for his narration of the widely praised Ken Burns documentary, The War, which aired on PBS, and a second for his narration of the documentary, Unforgivable Blackness: The Jack Johnson Story. Keith was also an Emmy nominee for narrating the Ken Burns miniseries Jazz.

A Juilliard graduate, Keith has also lent his irrefutable vocal talent to Broadway, where he earned a Tony Award nomination for his performance in the musical, Jelly’s Last Jam. In addition, he was honored with a Bistro Award from Backstage, which recognizes outstanding achievements in cabaret, for his performance in Nat King Cole: A Knight of Romance.

His credits further include voicing the title character in Spawn and Goliath in Gargoyles for these animated TV series, the Cat in Coraline, and most recently Dr. Facilier in Disney’s new animated film, The Princess and the Frog.

Cole & Cole runs Wednesday, April 21 through Sunday, April 25 at the historic Southern Theatre. Visit www.jazzartsgroup.org for complete schedule and performance times. The Columbus Youth Jazz Orchestra (CYJO) is proud to perform prior to Sunday’s afternoon matinee at 1 PM.
