Columbus Jazz Legend, Gene Walker’s Band of Gold at Vonn Jazz on Friday

Local jazz legend Gene Walker, brings his “Band of Gold” to Vonn Jazz Lounge this Friday, April 2 at 9pm. Gene Walker’s Band of Gold originally formed back in the late 1960’s after he moved to New York City. The band featured Bo Didley, Jr., Billy Joe Thomas on organ, Preacher on bass and Bernadette on drums.

Gene Walker was born in Columbus Ohio, just a few blocks from Mt. Vernon Avenue and the Blackberry Patch on February 14, 1938.(source)

Gene is a legend in Columbus Jazz History having toured since 1958 with some of the world’s greatest entertainers including The Beatles, King Curtis, Jackie Wilson, Sam Cook, Johnny “Hammond” Smith, Jimmy McGriff, The Drifters, Chris Columbo and The Platters.
