Dana Leong at Via Vecchia Winery

CityMusic Columbus presents virtuoso electric cellist Dana Leong, who will perform with his trio at 2pm on Sunday, February 9th, at Via Vecchia Winery, 485 South Front Street. Doors open at 12:30 for lunch. The multi-talented Leong (also a composer and trombonist) blends sometimes disparate elements of jazz, classical, and pop into his own exciting style, conquering original material as well as a unique selection of covers. His performance should brighten a wintry afternoon. Leong is not just here to perform: his time in town also includes a stop at Fort Hayes High School on Monday morning. Press release follows:

Composer, cellist and trombonist Dana Leong fuses jazz, classical and pop to create a signature boundless sound. Often referred to as a “hi-def Yo-Yo Ma,” Dana’s pioneering collage of musical styles has garnered critical acclaim and wowed audiences around the world. It has also led him to collaborate with such top jazz artists as Paquito D’Rivera and Christian McBride, along with such diverse artists as Ray Charles, Kanye West, and Yoko Ono. In addition to these performances and collaborations, Dana has recently written and premiered Bound(less), a new work for the critically acclaimed pioneers of vertical dance, BANDALOOP, as well as composed an evening-length work, Life After Dark, that premiered at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, NY.
