For the second time this month, Dicks Den will be presenting jazz flavors from a nationally touring band when Denver’s Electric Red plays Friday. The show is the band’s penultimate date on their first tour, a two-week cross-country jaunt. The band plays an original strain of acid jazz, featuring manipulated samples and instrumental loops. The touring band is a trio led by bassist/composer/sonic magician David Dovo, who is joined by Josh Quinlan on effected tenor sax and keys and Alejandro Castano on drums. Their heady mix of live instrumentation and electronic samples and effects forms into “funky cinematic sound-scapes that shake your body and move your mind,” according to their bio. This newly-touring outfit will provide some fresh material for jazz jam fans and those willing to experiment with their live jazz.
