The Dick’s Den residency program has a strong slate lined up for the fall, starting with talented guitarist Brett Burleson returning to helm his second month of Wednesday shows for the month of October. Burleson is known around town for his prowess in many genres and settings, and he is again seizing the opportunity to showcase different angles of his musicianship, as well as the skills of his collaborators. As Burleson points out below, this month will be a special treat for guitar fans, as all of the jazz shows he presents will feature Burleson playing with another guitarist, all renowned players in their own right. All dates will include 3 sets of music from 9pm to 1am, and cover is $4. Keep reading for details and thoughts on each week’s show from Burleson:
Brett Burleson: “This time around for my Wednesday night residency I will be playing guitar with quartets that feature other guitarists that I have been a big fan of for the past 20 plus years as well as some incredible bass and drum combinations.
Wednesday, October 5th will be with Paul Brown (guitar), Jeff Bass (bass) and Shane Willis (drums). This is a project that Paul and I started up in the past year that features our original compositions.
October 12th will be with Derek DiCenzo (guitar), Nate Smith (bass) and Maxwell Button (drums). The four of us had a regular Tuesday night gig at Cafe Bourbon Street a few years back and it was always a blast. Expect a few unexpected things.
October 19th will be with Stan Smith (guitar), Roger Hines (bass) and James Gaiters (drums). Stan was my guitar teacher in college and I still get to learn from him whenever we work together! And you can’t go wrong with Roger and James in the rhythm section!
October 26th will feature two rock and roll bands that I play guitar with: The Bygones and Orson Buggy. Then I’m going to let my favorite local rock stars Good Company close out the night.”
