While illness forced the original June host to cancel, a recent rescheduling has resulted in a great June slate of the Dick’s Den Wednesday Residency program courtesy of new host and guitarist Brett Burleson (photo by Phil Hoffman). While a previous commitment means that Burleson will be absent for the first week (see below for his exciting out-of-town plans), his four weeks overall will still present a pleasing variety of jazz strains bringing many talented collaborators to the cozy stage of “The One and Only.” Burleson was kind enough to provide details on each week’s performance – keep reading to learn more. Each Wednesday’s show will run from about 9pm to 1am, and cover is always $5. Also, if you’d like a preview, Burleson will lead his regular group (see his description for June 27th) at Dick’s this Friday, June 1st at 10pm (also $5). Get ready to enjoy another round of intimate and relaxed performances in one of Columbus’ most-storied jazz venues!

Brett Burleson:Wednesday, June 6th:
I will be in New Orleans performing on a concert with The JazzPoetry Ensemble (Michael Vander Does, Roger Hines and Roger Myers) along with Edward “Kidd” Jordan, Marlon Jordan and other members of the Jordan family. Matt Adams Quartet will be at Dick’s Den in my place (Matt Adams [sax], Tony Bonardi [keyboards], Matt Paetsch [bass] and Max Button [drums]).

June 13th:
I will be with Josh Hindmarsh on guitar and John Allen on bass. We have been playing together in a traditional swing style (‘Trad’ as the jazz musicians call it these days) with a focus on the music of Django Reinhardt.

June 20th:
We will be reuniting one of the incarnations of Paul Brown’s Science Gravy Orchestra with Paul and I on guitar, Nate Smith on bass and Max Button on drums.

June 27th:
It will be my regular group featuring my compositions. Eddie Bayard – tenor sax, Alex Burgoyne – alto sax, Roger Hines – bass and Shane Willis – drums.”
