4th Floor Live: Kevin Turner

Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Kevin Turner has performed, recorded and/or toured alongside a number of artists including Diane Schuur, Destiny’s Child, Dr. John, and Lalah Hathaway.

He currently tours and records with Grammy award-winning saxophonist Kirk Whalum and is the professor of jazz guitar at The Ohio State University. Don’t miss his free performance through the Jazz Arts Group “4th Floor Live” series which provides artists with a platform for creativity while providing curious listeners the intimate experience they want. The 4th Floor of the historic Lincoln Theatre becomes a true listening room where artists and audiences can share live jazz that celebrates tradition while looking to the future.


Stan Smith “Two Quartet” @ Filament

If you live in Columbus you probably know who Stan Smith is. The guitarist, bandleader and educator has been playing professionally in Columbus for over 40 years, and we’re grateful to have his huge presence in our town. No stranger to Filament, Stan will be presenting another wonderful evening of intimate jazz joined by frequent collaborators Mark Donavan on saxophones, Roger Hines on bass, Wally Mitchel on drums. Tommy Smith will join on drums, replacing Wally, for the 2nd set. Two Quartets, with a subtle shift on lineup will prove to be a unique and gratifying experience.

Lucas Holmes // Roger Hines Duo

@ Black Point


Lucas Holmes is a versatile and integral part of the local scene, playing with groups like Popgun and Such Sweet Thunder. Roger Hines is the bass professor at Capital University, also known for touring the world for decades with artists of all genres. Lucas and Roger are two of the best duetists in town. I love the way each of them accompanies soloists, so I can only imagine that the musical empathy they each bring will make a night of really excellent music. Go get a drink and enjoy the ambience of this hip, short north spot.


Linda Dachtyl Trio featuring

While Dachtyl is best known as a top-flight organist in jazz circles, she is also a talented drummer and percussionist and is active in multiple genres. Here she will be playing hammond organ, with husband Cary on drums and the esteemed guitarist Don Hales. Expect Jazz standards and originals by Don and Linda at the “One and Only”!

Jazz At Market District @ Bexley’s

Giant Eagle 6-8

Led by bassist Bradley Mellen and drummer Addison Smith, this early evening event happens every Saturday from 6-8. Each week a new player is featured in a trio format, from guitarists like Ryan Craycroft and Tom Davis, to saxophonists Michael Cox and Alex Burgoyne, plus much more. This week will feature Bradley on bass, Stan Smith on guitar and Shane Willis subbing for Addison on drums.

The Market District Kitchen & Bar, on the second floor of Market District Supermarket, 2250 E. Main Street in Bexley is also the home of Doug Neel’s jazz guitar brunch on Sundays.

Derek DiCenzo is a local multi-instrumentalist who can be seen with the Bobby Floyd Trio every week on Sunday Nights at the Blue Velvet Room, among other places. His impressive career has taken him all over the country and world with artists like Monty Alexander and Tony Monaco. Soul Sunday at Natalie’s is held on the first Sunday of each month, and includes a delicious Brunch from 11 am until 3 pm, with the Derek DiCenzo TRio performing between 11 am and 1 pm.
