The Hot Times Community Music and Arts Festival, the annual independent and all volunteer music and arts festival, returns this weekend, September 8th through 10th, on the corner of Parsons Ave. and Main Street on the grassy lawns of the Columbus Health Department. The festival hosts dozens of live music acts playing a wide variety of music on three stages in addition to the numerous artists, poetry slams, drum circles, children’s activities and the annual display of lovingly decorated “artcars.” Below we have listed the jazz acts playing the festival (to the best of our knowledge). Highlights include Friday’s headlining slot for Jim Maneri’s keytar-powered Flypaper project, a set billed as “the last great hour of EDM outdoor festival dancing of the summer in the 614;” a Saturday appearance by Ancestral Voices, the gospel trio featuring three of Columbus’ finest jazz vocalists (Debra James Tucker, Tia Harris and Vicki Saunders); and the Sunday afternoon culmination of the 2017 Hot Times Kate Schulte Tribute, featuring jazz luminaries James Carter, D.D. Jackson, Kidd Jordan and a great Columbus cast. The full schedule can be found in the 2017 Hot Times Program. Enjoy one of the last big outdoor festivals of the year!
