The Indianola Presbyterian Church will be hosting a live jazz performance this Sunday, February 10th at 10:30am, as part of their yearly “Jazz Worship” service for Mardi Gras Sunday. Every year since 2001 the Church has celebrated Transfiguration Sunday (aka Mardi Gras Sunday) with a Jazz Worship Service with a professional jazz group providing all of the music for the service. This Sunday features the live jazz of the High Street Stompers Dixieland Band.
The High Street Stompers Dixieland Band began in 1987 when all of the original members were Professors in the School of Music at The Ohio State University. Since then the ensemble has performed in schools, churches, concert halls, parks, at arts festivals, at jazz festivals around the country, in libraries, on college campuses, in art museums, for wedding receptions, and at an OSU football half-time show. This will be their eighth time with us on Mardi Gras Sunday.
The band has recorded numerous albums. Their most recent CD, “That’s A Plenty,” was released in March, 2011 and may be ordered through their website http://highstreetstompers.com/index.php .
