It's Mardi Gras in Columbus

Just because we’re not in New Orleans doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate the music of Mardi Gras here in Columbus. Three great bands will liven up Fat Tuesday with the sounds of Nawlin’s. Everyone’s favorite New Orleans-inspired brass band, the New Basics Brass Band, will be performing all evening at a variety of venues. The Mardi Gras music begins on Tuesday at 5pm at Gallo’s Kitchen and then moves up to Dick’s Den starting at 10pm.

New Orleans Funk Orchestra

If you’re looking for some more New Orleans funk, head on over to Natalie’s Coal Fired Pizza and Live Music for a Fat Tuesday performance by the New Orleans Funk Orchestra or NOFO for short. (NOFO) is best described as a funk band full of jazz musicians. Founded in 2008 by former “I” dotter and Conn-Selmer Endorsing Artist Kie Watkins, the band plays some of the funk hits from the era that you may recognize and some that you may have never heard before.

The NOFO library contains hits and B sides from the likes of Sly and the Family Stone, the JB’s, Maceo Parker, Rusty Bryant, Greyboy All-Stars, Stevie Wonder, Roy Hargrove, and so many more! The seven piece NOFO is continually evolving from show to show with a lineup in each chair that it at least three deep. Every show will stand on its own as both entertainment and as a new benchmark for the band. All performers with NOFO are regional performers on the jazz and classical music scene.
