JAG Spotlights Young Musicians in Upcoming Events

As part of its ongoing educational mission, Jazz Arts Group is presenting two concerts next week that will focus on young and emerging musicians. On Thursday, April 21st, from 7 to 9pm, JAG will host a “Young Composer Celebration” in the Jazz Academy facility within the Lincoln Theatre complex. Selected young composers (ages 18 – 30) will “have an opportunity to perform and discuss their compositions in an live, intimate concert setting at the Jazz Academy.” This should be a great chance to see exciting new works in an attentive environment – click here for registration info and further details. And on Saturday, April 23rd, at 8pm, Columbus native Aaron Diehl will return to town with his Trio to perform with the Columbus Youth Jazz Orchestra for its 25th anniversary at the Lincoln Theatre. Pianist Diehl, an alum of the CYJO and the first Hank Marr High School Jazz Award winner, will start the night with his trio, and they will later be joined onstage by CYJO members and special guests. Tickets are available here for this can’t-miss celebration. If you can’t make it to the show, the Aaron Diehl Trio will also take part in a free Offstage at the Jazz Academy Workshop at 2pm on the 23rd at the Jazz Academy.
