The Jazz Arts Group of Columbus (JAG) welcomes what All Music Guide calls “the most adventurous quartet in contemporary jazz music.” In conjunction with their concert at the Lincoln Theatre, Yellowjackets will conduct a free workshop on Wednesday, April 28 from 3 – 5:30 p.m. at the Jazz Academy before their show that night.
For over 25 years, Yellowjackets have won audiences over with their expert musicianship and memorable melodies. This multi-Grammy Award-winning group forged fusion at its inception and continues to expand and redefine musical movements. A rare name in the field of contemporary jazz, Yellowjackets boast a line-up that has produced some of the genre’s finest performances ever. Their latest collaborative release, Lifecycle, features Mike Stern, guitar virtuoso and former member of the Miles Davis electric band.
This free workshop is limited to 20 middle and/or high school students only. Advanced registration is required by noon, April 28 via email at cargiro@jazzartsgroup.org. The Jazz Academy is located on the 4th floor of the historic Lincoln Theatre complex, 769 E. Long Street, in the King-Lincoln District of Columbus.
The Jazz Arts Group believes in the power of music to transform lives and is committed to offering lifelong-learning opportunities for individuals of all ages, interests, backgrounds and abilities. JAG opened the Jazz Academy community instructional space in the newly restored Lincoln Theatre for multi-generational and recreational music making, ensemble playing, after-school programs, technology instruction and lectures with world-class musicians – a place where everyone can listen, learn and play.
