Jazz Arts Group & MojoFlo join forces for "Motor City Soul Revue," March 2 at the Lincoln

The Jazz Arts Group’s Inside Track series continues its 2012-13 season at the historic Lincoln Theatre with a tribute to the famed “Hitsville U.S.A.” label and the artists and songs that exemplified “The Motown Sound.” On Saturday, March 2, Columbus’ favorite neo-funk band MojoFlo joins forces with members of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra and a cast of local music all-stars to present the “Motor City Soul Revue,” an evening of classic hits from Motown’s golden era!

Jazz is often called America’s music. However in early 1960s Detroit, a small group of black entrepreneurs, musicians, and entertainers began cultivating a sound that would become as much a part of our collective culture as baseball and every bit as beloved as apple pie. Today we all know the Motown songs and artists just as well as any Ellington or Gershwin tune. The show will feature all the hit songs you love from such legendary artists as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Smokey Robinson, and Diana Ross & The Supremes just to name a few! Experience your favorite songs live – they’ll have you singing, swaying, and “dancing in the street!”

“Marked by blazing horns, funky bass lines and a front-woman with sizzling pipes… MojoFlo rides a wave of old-school swagger mixed with contemporary cool,” writes Kevin Joy of The Columbus Dispatch. Led by vocalist Amber Nicole, MojoFlo mixes funk, soul, jazz, hip-hop, and reggae in an intoxicating brew that sounds a bit like a more contemporary version of the great funk band Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. With a debut EP, Waiting, and full-length album, Watcha Think About That?, under their belts, MojoFlo is just getting warmed up.

Advance concert tickets are on sale now for $20 (general admission) and available through the CAPA Ticket Office and through all Ticketmaster outlets. Showtime is 9:00 PM with a soul DJ opening the show at 8:00 PM.

The 2012-13 Inside Track season closes with virtuoso jazz bassist and film composer Kyle Eastwood (April 6, 2013 at Short North Stage’s Green Room). Call 614-294-5200 or visit www.jazzartsgroup.org for more information.
