After a promising debut in 2016, the Jazz at the Amp Series of outdoor concerts returns for 2017 this weekend even bigger and better! Presented by major sponsors Westerville Parks and Recreation, Jazz 98.5 FM, WSAX-LP, SEMM Foundation and Mount Carmel Health, the series of 7 FREE concerts will be held every Saturday from July 1st through August 19th (except for July 22nd) at the Westerville Amphitheater in Alum Creek Park, 221 West Main Street, Westerville. The schedule includes national entertainers like saxophonist Paul Taylor, pianist Brian Simpson, saxophonist Jeff Kashiwa, trumpeter Cindy Bradley, saxophonist Deon Yates, and guitarist Matt Marshak paired with great local artists. The series kicks off with Urban Jazz Coalition and Friends this Saturday, July 1st at 6:30pm and wraps up with a cavalcade of great groups opening for Paul Taylor on August 19th. Keep reading for more details and the full schedule.
Along with the major sponsors, there are also contributing sponsors that are lending their assistance or support: Staples, Bounce TV, Music-Go-Round, Small Sounds Inc., Idle-A-While House Restaurant, Columbus Jazz Alliance, and JazzColumbus.com. As the weather has been unpredictable lately, there are plans being developed for an optional indoor location to hold the concerts in case it rains. These plans are not yet finalized – In case of inclement weather, check the Jazz at the Amp website for updates.
