Jazz in the Garden Series at the Columbus Museum of Art

Enjoy Jazz in the Garden with Mark Flugge and trumpeter Rob Parton at the Columbus Museum of Art this Sunday, August 19th from 3pm to 5pm. This will be the final Jazz in the Garden concert for the year, but the Museum will have additional Chamber Jazz concerts throughout the year. These Chamber concerts are performed on select Sundays throughout the year in their Cardinal Health Auditorium.

The Columbus Museum of Art has had a long history of Jazz concerts. In fact, during the 80’s the Museum hosted a popular Jazz in the Garden series. As Marketing Manager Nancy Colvin explains:

The current Jazz in the Garden grew out of the Chamber Jazz series presented featuring Mark Flugge and friends. Mark used to present the concerts at Firehouse. When that venue closed, Mark, who has performed for various events at CMA through the years, needed a new performance space. Our Cardinal Health Auditorium is a wonderful venue for Chamber music. The acoustics in the auditorium are fantastic and we have a refurbished 1929 Steinway piano that is a great draw for musicians, so bringing the concerts to CMA seemed a natural fit. The popularity of the outdoor performances fueled the idea of bringing back the Garden Series, and here we are. The concerts are well-attended and enhance our regular programming, bringing in new audiences and deepening our connection with long-standing members.
