The final installment of the Columbus Museum of Art’s Jazz on a Summer’s Day will take place this Sunday, August 17th at 3 p.m. The four concert series features pianist Richard Lopez in collaboration with various local jazz musicians. This Sunday, Richard welcomes vocalist Kelly Delaveris with music that includes relaxed big band stylings and cool, bossa nova and samba vibes.
Kelly Crum Delaveris has been singing professionally since 1978, inspired by her father’s collection of big band singers and Sergio Mendes recordings. John Petric, of the Columbus Dispatch, describes her “…silky voice…..her rapid-fire phrasing, practically turning the lyrics into liquid sounds. Amazing.” Kelly has opened for the likes of Sarah Vaughn, Bob James, Bob Newhart, Joan Rivers, Tito Puente, Tony Bennett and many more. She was voted best vocalist in Columbus by the Columbus Dispatch 2006 Readers Poll, and sang with the group Brasileira for many years, performing all Brazilian songs in Portuguese. In April 2012, Kelly moved to York, Pennsylvania but we are lucky to have her in Columbus for this special appearance.
Ticket prices are $10 per person. Tickets for students under eighteen are free when student is accompanied by a paid adult. Tickets are available online or at the door. Call 614.629.0312 for more details.
