Shows To See This Week
Saturday, June 9th (7pm – midnight): Shaun Martin’s Gogo Party with Paris Monster at Woodlands Tavern. Renowned keyboardist Martin, who earned a Grammy with the modern fusion powerhouse Snarky Puppy, returns to Columbus with his Gogo Party band. As always with his projects, expect an enlightening blend of a multitude of inspiring styles which should make for a fun Saturday night out. “Employing heavy elements of funk and soul,” opener Paris Monster “closes the gaps between synth-pop & garage.” Tickets and more details are available here.
Wednesday, June 13th (6 – 9pm): Bobby Floyd, John Allen & Tony McClung at Citizens Trust by Veritas, Downtown. This new weekly event finds keyboard maestro Floyd with a newly assembled trio that marks old and new collaborations with its members. Drummer McClung played in Floyd’s trio for seven years before a firing that McClung credits with getting himself on track – it has been over 15 years since the two played together regularly. Phenomenal young bassist Allen has established himself on the scene in recent years and seeing him create live with two veterans will surely be an experience. Located in the old Citizens Trust bank lobby above the popular new Veritas restaurant on West Gay Street, this bar should be a great setting for lively jazz and drinks after your workday.
Have a great week!
