First up this week is a new weekly feature: This Wednesday at Brothers Drake! Saxophonist Alex Burgoyne, who books the Jazz Wednesday series at the meadery, will give us his thoughts on each upcoming show at this free showcase of some of the area’s finest talent. Alex Burgoyne: “This Wednesday at Brothers Drake: The Terrance Charles Trio. Terrance [Farmer] has been a big strong part of the jazz scene for my entire memory of it. I think we met at Ruby Tuesday on Summit in 2009, and he’s been doing his thing in Columbus since. Terrance is one of the musicians in town who I like so much I don’t get jealous of all the gigs he has. He’s got a gigantic sound and plenty of touch and taste. I can’t wait for this group.” Keep reading for more from Burgoyne plus additional previews!
Burgoyne: “Featuring Terrance singing and playing saxophone, Robert Mason playing organ and keyboards, and Reggie Jackson playing the drums, Terrance says, ‘We’ll be doing a mix of standards and funk/soul tunes. Group is NASTY. Gonna be a good night.’
Jazz Wednesday at Brothers Drake. 8:00-11:00PM. Free as always. You mead it.”
Shows To See This Week
Saturday, October 19th (10pm – 2am): Maxwell Button, Tony Monaco & Derek DiCenzo at Dick’s Den. Drummer Button’s typically humorous and understated Facebook event for his upcoming show revealed a powerhouse trio! He will be joined by organist extraordinaire Monaco and guitar wizard DiCenzo for a rare lineup of classic organ grooves. Paired with a $5 cover and astoundingly cheap drinks, this is one not to miss!
Tuesday, October 22nd (8 – 10pm): Bob Lanzetti at Natalie’s. Guitarist Lanzetti, perhaps best known as a core member of Snarky Puppy, brings his own band to Worthington for a special show – tickets available here. Keep reading for details from Natalie’s:
