This Sunday July 17th, Columbus Jazz fans will be treated to another great free outdoor show as part of the Goodale Park Music Series. The Goodale Park Music Series features six free family-friendly concerts at the park’s gazebo each summer. It offers a variety of musical genres performed by Columbus bands. This Sunday, welcome local jazz piano wizardry of Jim Maneri and his band, “Daddy Romance”.
Daddy Romance is a Columbus Ohio based band that features Columbus-style party jazz in the fun tradition of past Columbus jazz artists like Rusty Bryant, Hank Marr, Don Patterson, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, and “Daddy Romance” himself: Alvin Valentine. Joe Crump on Saxophone and vocals, Jim Maneri on Piano, Roger Hines on bass and Jim Castoe all have decades of experience playing jazz everywhere on the planet and work hard to leave audiences toe-tapped, smiling and satisfied by the hard mid-east swing, melodic improvisation filled with quotes and virtuosity that is the Columbus jazz tradition.
Camaraderie, picnics, and bare feet in the grass are highly encouraged at every show. The series is funded by the Short North Foundation, Short North Civic Association, Friend of Goodale Park, Italian Village Society, Harrison West Society, and ComFest. It was founded by Alexandra Kelley in 2009.
