Mark Flugge Quartet's "Monk's Moods" at Natalie's

On Wednesday, January 8th at 9PM, the Mark Flugge Quartet will present Monk’s Moods: Music of Thelonious Monk at Natalie’s. Mark Flugge (piano), Randy Mather (saxophone), Dave DeWitt (bass), and Aaron Scott (drums) will tackle “classic and rarely heard Thelonious Monk compositions.” Monk, a true legend of American music, left behind a wealth of jazz standards, which will provide a rich basis for this evening of classic jazz. Flugge, one of Central Ohio’s premier pianists, transcribed Monk’s “Town Hall Concert” recording in 2005, and subsequently led performances of the transcribed album from the piano for the Firehouse Jazz Series, and also at the University of Illinois’ Summer Jazz Festival. The experienced Mather will serve as a fine local interpreter of the contributions of Charlie Rouse, who collaborated with Monk for over a decade, and the rhythm section of DeWitt and Scott is one of the finest in town. This all-star quartet is prepared to pay exquisite tribute to one of the all-time greats. Admission is $8.
