On Sunday, November 16th at 5 p.m., bassist Martin Wind and his quartet will be at Bungalow Jazz. He will be joined by Grammy winner Bill Cunliffe on the piano, Joe La Barbera on the drums, and Scott Robinson on the tenor sax. Martin Wind has an established career as a musician in his home country Germany, where he worked with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and studied at the Music Conservatory in Cologne. He moved to New York from Germany in 1996, and after studying Jazz Performance and Composition at NYU, became very popular on the jazz club scene as well as contributing music for some popular films. Wind has been on the faculty at NYU for 18 years and throughout his career has led or been the co-leader on 10 albums. Wind has a Columbus connection, having recently recorded with local saxophonist Pete Mills on his “Sweet Shadow” release.
Wind is currently touring with his new tribute album for Bill Evans called Turn Out the Stars. It is music written and/or inspired by Evans, performed by the Martin Wind Quartet along with the Marchigiana Philharmonic Orchestra from Italy.
