There is a new live jazz series in town and it’s at the New Harvest Urban Arts Center located at 1675 Arlington Avenue in Columbus. The first live show in the series starts this Saturday November 17th from 7:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. We sat down with Tress Augustine to find out a little bit more about the New Harvest Urban Arts Center and the concept behind the weekly jazz series.
JC: What is the New Harvest Urban Arts Center?
New Harvest Cafe and Urban Arts Center is a non-profit community arts organization. Founded in 2001 and established in 2009 we are committed to using arts and agriculture as tools to engage, educate and empower communities. The Cafe and Gallery are open Tuesday through Saturday 12pm to 7pm. New Harvest also has a half acre community garden located on Cleveland Ave.
What is the Saturday Night Live Jazz Series at New Harvest and why did you decide to have a jazz series?
Saturday Night LIVE Jazz Series is a wonderful live music series designed to spotlight local and national jazz artists and to promote the arts & agricultural programs presented by New Harvest Urban Arts Center.
Who will be performing there during the jazz nights?
Mark Lomax, Eddie Bayard, Dean Hulett and Will Menefield …just to name a few, we will also have special musical guests for “jam” sessions.
What is the atmosphere there like for live jazz performances?
New Harvest Urban Arts Center has a warm comfortable appeal. Our audience is surrounded by art from local artists and are embraced by the rich and delectable smells coming from our soul food kitchen. All this combined with our open floor plan, intimate stage and BYOB policy makes New Harvest a place to remember in Columbus.
