Two of the most exciting and talented local jazz fusion groups perform on the same stage tonight in Columbus. Decendre, headed by piano player and multi-instrumentalist Adam Smith play first at 10pm, followed with the intense mesmorizing grooves and compositions by the Trio of Fury, led by Trombonist Evan Oberla.
Descendre was formed in 2008 with the fortuitous gathering together of diverse musical forces. They seek to create and perform original music that represents a modern interpretation of the kind of music you may have heard on film soundtracks from the 1970’s or early 80’s, influenced by greats such as, Weather Report, Third Dimension, Stanley Clarke, Return to Forever, Terje Rypdal, Jean Luc Ponte, John Pattitucci, Dave Weckl, Wayne Krantz, Allen Holdsworth, and Chick Corea.
The band consists of Smith, drummer Justin Campbell, and bassist Jim Tussing. Randy Mather, a well-known saxophonist whose musical career has spanned three decades and included musical tours and performances with the likes of Woody Herman, Guy Lombardo, Kim Pensyl, Aretha Franklin will be joining them as well.
The Trio of Fury is lead by Even Oberla of the RFG Quintet. Joining him tonight are the amazing bass talents of Scott Gold and drummer Justin Campbell.
The show can be seen tonight at Ruby Tuesday at 10pm.
