This Saturday will be a special treat at Becky’s Bungalow Jazz. Students from the Ohio State University Jazz Studies program will join OSU Jazz Studies Assistant Professor Kenyatta Beasely in a live performance along with jazz saxophonist Dan White. The show is this Saturday, December 3, at 7:30pm. Suggested donation is $10 and just $5 for students. OSU students and especially school of Music and Jazz Studies students are encouraged to attend. Kenyatta Beasley joined the OSU Jazz Studies faculty in 2009. He holds an MM from New York University in Music Composition and Film Scoring, received his BA in Jazz Composition from the Mannes School of Music, and is a graduate of the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts.
At NYU, Kenyatta studied with Sonny Kompaneck (Three Kings, De-Lovely) and composed the score for the short film Earnie, which won the NYU/New York Magazine First Run Film Festival Award for Best Original Score (2004), as well as being a finalist at Sundance. He then went on to win Best Original Score at the 2007 Brooklyn Arts Council Film Festival for another short film, Heroes Wanted. Other short films that Kenyatta has composed for include Jeffrey’s Calypso (2005), Dentist Visit (2007), Heart Attack (2007) and the award-winning Pariah (2007). His first solo, full-length film score was written for the Vivica Fox romantic comedy Three Can Play That Game, released in 2007. He recently wrapped up production for his latest film, A Jersey Christmas and is currently set to score a Spike Lee/40 Acres and a Mule feature entitled, The Showcase.

Dan has shared the stage with: Arturo Sandoval, John Clayton, Roy Hargrove, Sean Jones, Carl Allen, Kurt Rosenwinkle, John Fedchock, Anthony Wonsey, David ‘Fathead’ Newman, Bobby Sanabria, Kenyatta Beasley, Shawn ‘Thunder’ Wallace, Bruce Johnstone, Robin Eubanks, Bob Lark, Bob Sneider, David Bixler, Scott Belk and many others.
