The sousaphone driven band, New Basics Brass Band, will once again perform for the PBJ & Jazz series at the Lincoln Theatre. This family friendly event exposes youngsters to live music and jazz regularly throughout the year. The NBBB are a perfect fit for the performance with their recent “Ditties for Kiddies” CD release last year. More information from the Jazz Arts Group:
“The Jazz Arts Group of Columbus (JAG) will enlist the infectious horns of the New Basics Brass Band to heat up the Lincoln Theatre ballroom on February 22, 2014 for the next PBJ & Jazz family concert presented by Bob Evans Farms. Due to popular demand, this year’s season will continue to include two performance times per concert, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
Originally launched in 1995, the sousaphone-driven New Basics Brass Band layers jazz, R&B, New Orleans funk, and groove sounds to produce party music for the masses. Last year the band released their fourth studio recording titled Ditties for Kiddies, featuring eleven funky, jazzy, New Orleans-tinged takes on some fun kids’ classics along with a couple choice originals.
PBJ & Jazz concerts are 1-hour long interactive concerts designed to introduce jazz and American music to young children and their families. Featuring some of Columbus’ finest musicians and ensembles, PBJ & Jazz concerts are hosted by former Columbus Music Hall owner and retired music educator Rebecca Ogden and are a great introduction to live music for the youngest audience member.
“It has been so much fun over the years to work with great musicians playing real live jazz for kids and their families,” states Ogden. “Every concert is a treat. I am delighted that PBJ & Jazz has a life after the Columbus Music Hall in its new home at the Lincoln!”
PBJ & Jazz concerts are $5 per person at the door with a family maximum of $20. Children receive a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, juice and a cookie. The 2013-14 concerts will be held in the ballroom in the Lincoln Theatre complex, 769 E. Long Street, Columbus, OH 43203. All concerts begin promptly at 10:00 and 11:30 a.m. Call 614-294-5200 or visit www.jazzartsgroup.org for more information”
