Composer, educator, and multi-diasporic aerophonist, Ralph “Buzzy” Jones will be performing all this weekend at various venues across town and with a number of different musicians. Friday evening December 7th, Jones will be performing at Brother’s Drake Meadery with local guitarist virtuoso Stan Smith. Saturday night Jones returns to Brother’s Drake for a late show starting at 10pm performing along side “Beauty of My Land”. Then join Buzzy again on Sunday night at Dick’s Den with local group Madrugada with Roger Hines on bass, Stan Smith guitar, Adam Smith on keys, and Danny Aguiar on drums.
Ralph “Buzzy” Jones is a woodwinds player who is not only an excellent saxophonist and flautist but also plays a number of exotic woodwinds such as the Ney, hichi-riki, sipsi, and shena. He has been a active performing artist in the African American Spontaneous Compositional Tradition for over 35 years. He holds a Master’s degree in African American Studies and a B.A. in Ethnomusicology. He is currently Faculty-in-Residence in the African American Studies Department at Oberlin College. As an internationally recognized performing soloist, he has recorded and or performed throughout the U.S., Africa, Asia, and Europe, with Yusef Lateef, and Pharoah Sanders, to name a few.
