This weekend marks the annual Ray Charles Tribute weekend at Dick’s Den both Friday and Saturday nights. The annual show is organized by local jazz bass player and former sideman for Ray Charles himself, Roger Hines. Expect to hear your favorite Ray Charles ditties lead by Hines and a host of other local jazz musicians influenced by Ray Charles including: “Raelettes” Vicki Saunders, Tia Harris Roseboro, and Debra James Tucker. Also featured will be Stan Smith, guitar, Jon Eschelman, keyboards, James “Smooth” Elliott, drums and vocalist Dave Harris..
Roger Hines, the bassist, has logged many miles on the road during his thirty-year career as a musician. Hines toured as musical director for Grammy Award-winning jazz vocalist Diane Schuur from 1988 to the present. From 1980 -1987 Roger toured non-stop as bassist for the legendary singer Ray Charles. He has also performed with many other well-known artists and ensembles including, Louie Bellson, the Count Basie Orchestra, Rosemary Clooney, Eddie Daniels, Billy Eckstine, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Frank Foster, Sir Roland Hanna, Hank Marr, and Zoot Sims.
