NOTE: This is a 2010 news article about a new (at the time) Columbus radio station. JazzColumbus.com has no current information about nor contact with Harman and Harmonic Lounge. Thanks.
A brand new radio station has hit the Internet to fill the vacated jazz format for Columbus. Starting today listeners can get their jazz fix by visiting ColumbusJazzRadio.com. The free, 24/7 Internet jazz station is the fourth audio outlet for Rocket Media, a Columbus based radio syndication and programming company serving both Internet and terrestrial (AM and FM) radio stations.
Rocket Media Principal Mike Holman noted:
“When Columbus Jazz listeners lost their radio station a few months back we knew that a large hole needed to be filled. By teaming up with former WJZA smooth jazz program director Bill Harman, we knew that we could launch a station that Columbus jazz listeners and a worldwide audience would enjoy and support.”
Harman has been a manager/designer/strategist and audio architect of contemporary instrumental music since the early 80’s. As one of the pioneers of this sound, he has programmed successful and profitable stations and specialty shows throughout the nation. He also aided in the design of contemporary instrumental stations for radio groups in Australia and Canada. Harman added
“ColumbusJazzRadio.com is all about a brand new and vibrant listening experience. The smooth jazz format has been watered down over the years with not only the wrong music mix, but it also produced an overall pulse that was so downbeat it induced sleep. Our up tempo blend and variety will create a unique texture that will have both listeners and clients enjoying something that has been missing for quite some time.”
Harman also produces the Harmonic Lounge®, a weekly show of softer jazz, chill and acoustic music that is syndicated by Rocket Media. The show aired locally on WJZA, the former smooth jazz station in Columbus and will now be available on ColumbusJazzRadio.com every Sunday from 9am to noon and again from 9pm to midnight.
Rocket Media, LLC is a radio syndication and broadcast media provider that produces and distributes weekly radio shows including Buckeye Sportsman with Dan Armitage and is the broadcast provider for live play-by-play sports for the Ohio High School Athletic Association Radio Network. Along with Holman, the company is led by Columbus broadcast veteran Joe Ternovan. Their website can be found at: www.rocketm.com.
