Sax Entertainment proudly presents The New Artist Concert Series featuring local, regional and national artists along with the introduction of new performing artists and bands. The series features music from various music styles including jazz styles of straight ahead, traditional, contemporary/smooth, Latin and jazz funk, as well as rock, blues, soul and classic R&B.

The concert series takes place at The Bluestone, formerly known as BoMA, (Bar of Modern Art), an extraordinary venue that offers an unparalleled and unique experience that cannot be surpassed. In 2009 the new management team transitioned the nightclub and restaurant into a distinctive event venue that caters exclusively to events ranging from large scale corporate clients, fundraisers, business meetings and weddings to intimate receptions and private parties. Under the new management team, The Bluestone has ushered in a successful string of concert events.

Sax Entertainment is a full service promotion, entertainment and management company specializing in artist development and management, concert promotion, venue entertainment and booking services. Also under the Sax Entertainment banner, the company runs a full service professional rehearsal studio, Sax Entertainment Rehearsal Studios and music academy, Sax Entertainment Music Academy. During the current 2010-2011 school year, the academy was responsible for establishing and offering 186 free private instrumental and vocal music lessons to students in the Columbus City Schools, made possible solely by the compassionate giving of its’ staff and music instructors.

Join us Saturday, April 2nd for the series kick-off and first installment with special guest, The Urban Jazz Coalition. The Urban Jazz Coalition is considered to be one of America’s hottest contemporary jazz groups to come onto the scene in some time and they’ve created a major buzz on the U.S. national festival circuit over the past few years. In the United States, Urban Jazz Coalition has received considerable radio airplay as their last four CD releases, “Contempo”, “Long Street”, “Down To Get Up”, and “A New Day” have all achieved “Top 50” status on national smooth jazz airplay charts. The band’s music has been featured on the NBC Reality Series, “Starting Over”, on the soundtrack of the hit French film, “Le Verite Ou Presque”, and another Urban Jazz Coalition album track has been licensed by Capitol/EMI Records as part of a Gospel/Jazz compilation project.

With their unique blend of Urban Jazz/R&B, they have electrified audiences across North America performing at many of the nation’s top jazz festivals and concert venues including The Seabreeze Jazz Festival, Jazz Fest West, The Capital Jazz Fest, Russian River Jazz Fest, The Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz, The Smooth Jazz Summer Nights Concert Series at Penn’s Landing, Gahanna’s Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival located in the Columbus Metropolitan area and at numerous other venues around the country.

The Urban Jazz Coalition sound is just downright energetic, jazzy and funky. The group’s members consist of Phil Raney (Bass), Brandon Howard (Keys), Rich “Rico” Adams (Drums), Hector Maldonado (Percussion), Duane Tribune (Guitar) and Richard Randolph (Sax).

The April 2nd installment features a favorite Central Ohio jazz, Classic R&B and funk band, Fusion. The group’s versatility really hits home and shines through as they seamlessly move from one style of music to another, always tying it all together in a way that makes any listener enjoy whatever music they’re playing. From a mellow smooth jazz number with nimble fingers twinkling the ivory or a raucous and raunchy number with sax lead, to a hard thumping bass with funky drum interaction, Fusion has it all. Joining Fusion will be new artists and vocal sensations Michelle Marie, Fatima Bradley, Kelley Dahn and Jay Vaz.

About The New Artists

Michelle Marie

A vocalist, pianist and guitarist, Michelle delivers an equally impressive vocal performance capable of powering a small fleet of sailboats motoring out to sea then raising their sails to be wisp along under graceful breezes by her soulful voice and the power and passion of her performance.

Fatima Bradley

Fatima has the power in her voice to jump-start a NASCAR fleet of racing cars. Her vocal range will surprise you as she soulfully digs out songs from the bowels of the earth and in an instant soar with the birds high above the clouds. From a powerful rendition of a gospel standard like How Great Thou Art to a her gospel inspired R&B vocals, her vocal range allows her to deliver songs from eras gone by to a Jennifer Holiday cover of “And I’m Telling You”.

Kelley Dahn

Several words describe Kelley Dahn’s delivery and performance, stylish, smooth and elegant. An accomplished pianist and piano teacher, Kelley brings an emotion and compassion to her songs that conjure up romantic memories of days gone by when a songstress was able to take a listener on a sentimental journey.

Jay Vaz

A newcomer with a soulfully smooth voice, Jay Vaz is an up and coming new talent that helps keep the tradition of the solo male vocalist alive. Whether delivering an upbeat and lively melody or thought provoking ballad, his talent will amaze you. Don’t expect to hear him rap. It won’t happen. In traditional classic R&B fashion, he’ll quickly remind you of those days of old when the music industry boasted a stable of male vocalists that could actually sing, and fans clamored to see and hear them.

Stay after the concert and join The Urban Jazz Coalition, Fusion and all the new artists for the Bluestone’s traditional “Party After The Party”.
