Living legend Bernie Worrell continues to “take it to the stage” and tour internationally, now with his new group The Bernie Worrell Orchestra. The keyboardist and composer first gained prominence as a founding member of Parliament-Funkadelic, lending his talent to an impressive string of memorable hits and groundbreaking albums. In the 1980s, Worrell recorded and toured with the Talking Heads and began decades of collaboration with bassist Bill Laswell. The BWO is his current project, an eight piece ensemble that originally formed in 2011 to record an album of Worrell’s takes on jazz standards. Following his traditional course of action, Worrell decided to take the show on the road to play these standards along with some of Worrell’s gems from the past.
WCBE 90.5 FM presents The Bernie Worrell Orchestra at Woodland Tavern, 1200 W. 3rd St., Columbus, 43212, on Sunday, April 14th. Doors are at 8pm and Devil’s Lettuce opens. Tickets are $10 and are available here for a limited time.
