In conjunction with The Ohio State University’s School of Music, The Marine Corps Jazz Combo will visit Hughes Hall, 1899 N College Road on The OSU Campus, for two special events this weekend. On Sunday, February 18th at noon, the musicians of the Jazz Combo will lead a Master Class that is suggested for all local High School and College band and music students (more details here). Later that afternoon at 3pm, The Marine Corps Jazz Combo will present a concert as featured Guest Artists of the School of Music. Both events are free and open to the public, and no ticket is required. These events seek “To foster awareness of opportunities in the Marine Corps for those with a passion for music and provide the local community with an evening of fun, good music and good people.” Keep reading for details on this top notch band that will provide a swinging afternoon for the whole family.

The Marine Corps Jazz Combo is an elite group of musicians pulled from the Marine Corps All-Star Jazz Band, which is formed by the top jazz players from the 10 Marine Corps Field Bands. This select group of musicians has toured annually for almost a decade, performing American and Latin Jazz in the styles of Stan Kenton, Count Basie, Duke Ellington and others.

The All Stars have played at the Monterey Jazz Festival, Lincoln Center (in a performance featuring Bob Mintzer), the Berklee College of Music, the Illinois State Music Conference, and a Northwestern University showcase with guest soloist Victor Goines. This year, the band will perform at the Atlanta Dogwood Festival and the Newport Jazz Festival, among others.
