This week’s installment of Jazz Wednesdays (December 11 @ 8pm) at Brothers Drake features NYC band the Rad Trads. Founded by a group of NYU students in the spring of 2012, the boys have sought to fuse their interests in jazz, blues, and soul music into an entertaining blend while also reflecting American music’s roots that began in New Orleans and in various folk traditions and reach into the present day. This approach results in a repertoire that ranges from standards like “All of Me” and “Makin’ Whoopee” to funk and jazz classics of the 1960s and 1970s. Describing themselves as “8 debauched best friends singing, dancing, blasting horns and providing you with all the raw materials necessary to get your groove on,” the band’s love of the music shines through.
