This Saturday October 13th, the Wexner center plays host to one of the rising stars of the British and European jazz scene, the Neil Cowley Trio. The Trio have a thoroughly entertaining take on erasing the borders between jazz and indie rock (Cowley is also the pianist on both of Adele’s hit albums on tracks such as “Hometown Glory” and “Rolling In the Deep”). Their instrumental “songs without words” capture listeners—young and old—who might not otherwise consider jazz their kind of thing, breaking down standard perceptions of genre and touching lovers of all music.
The trio’s tunes range from unabashed splendor to poignant lyricism, from sprightly sprints and whimsical bursts to powerful, rhythmic melodies, all performed with emotion and energy. One BBC reviewer said “I love the Neil Cowley trio,” describing them as “a joy to hear live“ with “a great deal of style, panache and humor“ and “breathtaking original stuff.”
In this videos, the Neil Cowley Trio perform Rooster Was A Witness from their new album ‘The Face Of Mount Molehill’, out on 23rd January 2012 on Naim Jazz Records. The video was shot at Nelsons Brewery in the heart of Chatham’s Historic dockyard.
