Columbus Ohio’s very own Mary McClendon, who has been on the jazz scene upon graduating from Marion Franklin High School, and the Columbus College of Art & Design, will be showcasing her vocals this Saturday at Sidebar 122 located at 122 E. Main St. McClendon, who has been cited as saying she can’t remember a time when she hasn’t wanted to sing, got her start in her church’s choir while in the third grade. After a lifetime of performing, she has currently dedicated her life to volunteering and helping others.
Mary’s passion shines through her work, especially when performing her favorites, jazz and jazz ballads. Mary has been a regular on the central Ohio jazz scene since the late 1970s. Her smooth vocals and scat singing have made her an audience favorite as she has shared the stage with many jazz greats…Benny Carter, Louie Bellson, Clark Terry, Harry “Sweets” Edison and the great Sarah Vaughan, to name a few.
Sidebar 122 offers live jazz as part of their live music schedule. They offer small-plate dishes as well as wine and cocktails. They encourage all to come enjoy the “comfortably sophisticated and relaxed” environment.
